San Francisco lies along one of the liveliest tectonic places of Earth and hence living in with the continuous threat of earthquake has affected their approach to facing risks. The city was almost completely destroyed by the destructive earthquake in the year 1906 and then again in 1989, it suffered a large tremor. Because of continuously living under this threat, the people of San Francisco look at life quite differently. But nevertheless, they enjoy their life to the fullest.
Every year many street celebrations and festivals are hosted by the residents of San Francisco, the most famous of them being the Gay Pride procession, which is the largest in the world and takes place every September. Other important events include the Love Fest in late summers and the New Year parade of the Chinese held in February. San Francisco is home to large number of people from China and has the oldest & largest China Towns in North America. Every year it draws huge number of tourists and has featured in some of the popular films and TV series.
The city of San Francisco also has some unique landmarks. The Golden Gate Bridge is a marvelous example of engineering that connects the Northern California to San Francisco. The Coit Tower, above Telegraph Hill is one of the most noticeable landmarks of the city along with the tallest skyscraper, the Tranamerica Pyramid. San Francisco has some of the most popular museums in the world with The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) containing works of the 20th century. Fisherman’s Wharf is another tourist favorite spot in San Francisco. It houses some of the fantastic restaurants and stores in the city and is the exit point to the Alcatraz prison, which is now a popular tourist attraction for the people.
